Indoor
Racing
Indoor racing is very
popular as it can take place in the evening at any time of year -
irrespective of the weather!
We race at the William Knibb Centre
(click on the name to the left for a map), Alfred Street, Kettering on
a Friday evening. Doors open at 6:45pm. The emphasis of the night is on
fun, but with a great deal of very close racing taking place!
We race in the gym on
the first floor of the Centre, which you get into from the car park
nearest to Victoria Street, then go in through the door in the right
hand corner of the car park and up the stairs. Racing is on
"PermaTrack" carpet laid on woodblock floor covering an area of
approximately 12m x 15m, with square section guttering and flexible
corner markers used to create the track design. AMBrc handout
transponders are used, or you can run a personal transponder to time
the races and count your laps, so there's never any arguing about who
won.
Race
Format
We run
two, three minute qualifying
rounds and two 5 minute finals (both finals count towards your overall
placing for the night), everyone gets to race in a final!
Touring
Cars must run with Stock
Motors, this means 13.5 turn brushless (or higher) or 27 turn brushed.
We run 'open' ESC's so timing advance/turbo speedo's are fine. Slick
racing tyres with additive is allowed, no mini-pins or spikes. We ask
that you set a mininmum ride hight of 5mm, this helps protect the
carpet from being damaged. Minimum weight is 1350g, in line with BRCA
rules.
Mini's
(Tamiya 'M' Chassis) must run with the standard 'silver can' motor.
Tamiya M Grip radial tyres or Sweep 33 slick tyres both work well on
our carpet. We have a 'gentelmans agreement' to run NiMh stick pack
batteries of no more than 2500mah to ensure close, cheap racing. The
differential should work as designed, i.e not locked up or replaced
with a spool. All other 'hop-ups' are allowed.
Race fees for the
evening are £4 for club members, £5 for
non-members. Family discount available, see race control on race night
for details. You can only race three meetings as a non-member before
you have to join the Club/BRCA.
