20th January 2012

Well in last weeks update I set the challenge of beating the 17 drivers we had last week and we did! Thankyou to everyone that come along this week, a brilliant 20 drivers booked in giving us 4 full heats. Also for the third straight week we had a new driver and this time it was Neal Shore, hope you enjoyed your night and come and race with us again soon.

This weeks track could be described as a bit of a marmite track, some people hated it (Dave! who ended the night by throwing away the design and declaring we would never race it again, we'll see...), whereas some drivers quite enjoyed the challenge even if it did take a little getting used to. The track in question is Track 14 and was chosen by Beth. The personal bests and a short video have been posted on the track page.

Onto the racing and we start with the A Final which saw possably the closest qualifying result we have ever had with all 5 drivers seperated by just a couple of seconds. The racing in the finals was just as close but despite lining up 3rd on the grid Dan Wooster picked up 2 wins and therefore took the overall win. With John and Nathan tied on points it was left to the qualifing result to split them and so John picked up 2nd overall and Nathan 3rd.
The B Final was just as closly fought with Dave, Anthony and Peter all battling hard for the win. Anthony come out on top though with a 1st and and 2nd place giving him the win followed by Dave and then Peter.
The C Final saw Paul lining up on pole and going on to win both legs after making some huge steps forward with his car setup wink. George was also going well with his new brushless motor and speedo, taking a very good 3rd in leg 1 of the final but unfortuatly was unable to race in the 2nd leg leaving the way open for Martin to take 2nd overall followed by Greg Bird on his second visit to the club.
Daniel Oliver was unbeatable in the D Final taking both legs and the overall win followed by Mark and then Neal. The track layout didn't seem to be helping some of the newer racers which did make for quite a bit of bumping and barging but still all good fun though.

The Results page has been updated with details of all this weeks finals. With all the new faces coming along I'll just remind you all about our Facebook page, there tends to be alot being talked about on there by most of our members so come and join in (you do have to ask to join the group but this is usually accepted pretty quickly). Currently being talked about is the idea of proper BTCC replica shells and the possability of running a mini series for them.

Dare I challenge us to beat this weeks driver entry next week? More the 20 would be amazing! We'll see what happens...
See you all next time!

13th January 2012

Great to see lots of new faces again this week. Welcome to the club Eddie Neal and hope you get your car fixed soon and can come and have a proper race with us. Also we had visitors from the Rugby area, Mark and Nick Cooper who brought along their Mardaves (more on that in a minute) and Norman Stephens with both a Mardave and Touring Car, hope you enjoyed it and that we'll see you again soon. As well as the new racers we had a few spectators who came along to have a look at what we do on a Frday night, again we hope you enjoyed the evening and see you again soon but maybe with some cars next time?!

So onto the racing and this week saw some of our regulars taught a bit of a lesson. The track was chosen by Daniel Oliver this week and he went for possibly the fastest layout we have, Track 8. As mentioned we had some Mardaves mixed in with the normal touring cars and we had a great demontration that you don't need complex, high-powered 4wd cars to lap quickly round our tracks. Mark Cooper qualified in pole position for the C Final and went on to take the win ahead of 3 touring car rivals but it was Nick Cooper who was probably the star of the night. Nick put his Mardave on pole position in the B Final again ahead of 3 touring cars and went on to finish 2nd only being beaten by Anthony's very quick touring car. The A final was all touring car with Nathan taking pole position and going on to win ahead of Adam and John after 2 very fast if a little messy races.

Check out the Results page for the overall finishing positions in a little more detail. Also have a look on the Track 8 page for a short video of Nick and his Mardave showing us how to lap consistantly. We have also cleared the old Personal Bests data from the computer and started again from scratch so we can start posting everyones best times on the track layout pages again. This will let you keep track of your best performances on each track and see when you improve.

Thankyou to everyone who attended this week, 17 entries is a great turn out but lets see if we can beat it next week. Just a quick reminder that if you have one its probably worth bringing along your own tables for the next few weeks until we can track down where all the tables that are normally in the hall have disappeared to!!!

See you all next week!

Happy New Year

Hope you all had a good Christmas and New Year!

It was good to be back racing again this week after the short break over the christmas period. A few club members kept themselves busy during the break by paying a visit to the Derby club which is based at one of the best perminant RC facilities in the country, Ardent Raceway. During these outings our members proved once again that we have some of the quickest drivers in club racing. Andrew Keen, Charlie Ware and Adam Burgess dominated the top 13.5 heat, between them winning all four heats taking the fastest time and fastest lap. In the second heat Paul Coleman was easily the quickest when all four wheels were attached, while Martin Flower and Ben Johnson made good progress through the night and posted some good times also. Some picture of the trip can be found in the New Look Gallery.

So onto tonight and we welcome 2 new faces to the club, Greg Bird and Lewis Kirk. Hope you enjoyed your night and hopefully we will see you again soon! There seemed to be a few gremlins in the timing system tonight with some missed laps and then the laptop shutting down and losing some of the results data but I have written up the results from the printouts (minus the laptimes as that would take me hours!!!) so take a look at the Results page for tonights finishing positions.

The Gallery page has been evolving over the last few weeks and now has a good selection of pictures for you to have a look at, and theres the new Video Gallery too. If anyone wants their pictures or videos featured here on the site then send them through to me, or post them up on Facebook and let me know and I'll add them asap, particually if you have any shiney new bodyshell pictures you'd like adding to the 'Members Rides' section.

See you next Friday.
