Kettering Model
Car Club started as mainly an off-road
club, based in Burton Latimer in Northamptonshire. As with most
clubs, we have evolved and we now run electric
1/10th scale touring cars on an indoor carpet
track at the William Knibb Centre, in Kettering
on a Friday evening.
Click on the navigation bar to the
left to find out more about Indoor racing at KMCC.
Directions
to the William Knibb
Centre can be found below:
William
Knibb Centre>>
The car park is off Alfred Street and
is the first one as you approach the Centre from Victoria Street.
Once you are parked, head towards the corner of the building and
you will see a single door on the right hand side. If the door isn't
open ring on the bell stuck to the glass and we race on the first
floor in the gym.
Feel free to come along and take a
look even if you don't own an R/C car yet, you can get plenty of
advice from any of the committee members.
Membership
of Kettering Model Car Club for 2008 is £15
per year, which includes £12 for BRCA membership and £3
Club membership. If you are already a BRCA member from another club,
simply bring your membership card and it will only cost you £3
to join KMCC.
Club
membership is due for renewal in January each year. You
must have BRCA membership to race, as this gives you 3rd party insurance cover,
as well as a copy of the BRCA handbook and Circuit Chatter magazine. You
can download a copy of the Club Membership Application form and a copy of the
Club Handbook / Constitution below:

Club
Rules - we try to keep the rules
to a minimum, and a full list of all the rules are in the Club Handbook, which
you can download above. However, here are a few "Do's and Don'ts" you
should know before you come racing at KMCC:
Do's
- Please try and get to the hall
for 7pm and offer to help with the track layout - the sooner we
get started the sooner we finish! We aim to start to racing at
7.30pm and finish at 9.45pm, so you need to be booked in before
we can start.
- All drivers are expected
to stay until the end of the evening and help to pack away the
track - it only takes a very short time when everyone pitches
in.
- Listen out for announcements, including
the start of booking in, as a failure to book-in prior to 'heats'
being created means no race for that evening.
- The race fee MUST be paid in full
on the day when booking-in. No fee paid - no race, sorry.
- Once the 'heat' list is produced,
announced and displayed, all Driver's MUST check the following:-
(i) Your 'heat' number;
(ii) Your Car number;
(iii) Your crystal colour or frequency.
If you need to change your crystal from that on the list, you
MUST notify the race controller.
- Please try to have a minimum of
three crystals available each time you race.
- Keep an "ear" on which
heat is being run, on evenings when we have a lot of racers, we
can't afford to wait for drivers to prepare their cars when the
race should be starting.
- ALWAYS return your transponders
to the rack as soon as the race has ended and BEFORE you go out
to Marshall.
- After your 'heat', you MUST Marshall
the following 'heat'.
I.E. If you are in 'heat' two, you must Marshall 'heat' three,
etc.
- If you are unable to race for the
remainder of the evening, please tell the Race Controller so they
can adjust the finals if necessary - it makes better racing for
everyone.
DON'TS
- Please respect the people laying the track at
the start of the evening and don't go out for practice until the Race Director
tells you the track is open.
- You MUST NOT walk on to the track
OR leave the rostrum until the Race Controller has declared the
race over.
- Please make sure that
Spectators DO NOT walk onto the track to assist you during a race. Only Official
Marshall's, with BRCA insurance are allowed onto the track during a race.
-
NEVER leave your transmitters turned on in the pits or within half a mile radius
of the Venue. This includes outside the venue, as it can ruin another racers night.
If you have a problem with your car and require
a test-time, you MUST ask the Race Controller when it is convenient for you to
do so. - We're not really sure if Mobile
Telephones cause interference, but to be on the safe side, if you need to make
or receive a call, please try to do so away from the track.
- Please adhere to the rules of the
venue - No Smoking, Alcohol or Drugs within the building please,
as these will not be tolerated. Also, there is to be no soldering
within the hall, store room or corridor to avoid damage to the
floor or other equipment stored. If you need to solder anything,
talk to the Race Director who will help you out.
Car
Specification Again, while
trying to keep rules to a minimum, we still want to try and make the racing as
fair and exciting as possible, so we run a defined car class and put a restriction
of the type of motor and tyres you can run as follows:
- All Cars should be 1/10th scale
electric touring cars. You can use any make or model, with any
bodyshell that takes your fancy!
- Handout transponders must be mounted
inside the car and is such a way as they don't get damaged during
racing.
- Rubber Treaded Tyres (e.g.T27 and
Carpet Dragon tyres), or Slick tyres, only are allowed when racing
on the carpet at the William Knibb Centre. The prefered tyre is
the Corrally/STCC tyre available from Modeltech Racing, or through
the Club.
- Only low odour additive, in an applicator
pack is allowed. If you are not sure which additive is allowed,
please check with Race Control.
- No mini-pins, rally blocks, or foams
are to be used AT ALL, on your car. If you are seen to be using
mini-pins, then you will be refused to race for that evening unless
you change your tyres, as these can cause significant damage to
the capet.
- 27 turn Stock motors or 13.5 Brushless
motors only are allowed on a Friday evening. Stock motors can
have the bushes replaced with bearings to help prolong the life
of the motor. We may ask to check your motor from time to time
just to make sure all the racing is a fair as possible.
- Please keep a minimum ride height
of 5mm beneath your chassis, as any lower than this can cause
damage to the carpet.
Remember, the Race Controller
runs the meeting and their decision or that of the Chairman will
be final.
Apart from
that - Have a Great Night's Racing!
