 16th December 2005

Happy Christmas!

After tonights meeting, there won't be any racing now until Friday 6th January 2006 - where did this year go to?

We hope you have all had a great year's racing and look forward to seeing you all next year - with a few xmas hop-ups for you car?

Track 12 was particularly fast tonight, with a nice flowing line which generated up to 36 laps (and almost 37) within the 5 minute finals!

Check out the Race results:

BRCA / Club Membership 2006

Don't forget, from the beginning of January, your Club and BRCA membership fees will be due. BRCA membership has increased to £12 for 2006, but we have reduced the Club membership to just £3, so that it only costs £15, the same as 2005, to renew your Club & BRCA membership.

Autumn Championship Results

Tonights meeting brought the Autumn Championship to a conclusion, with the "usual suspects" taking the top slots in F1 , but with a few different drivers taking the top places in F2 and F3

So, here are the top positions, each of which will recieve a trophy.

  Overall Club Champion

John Fillingham
Formula 1 Points

3
Nathan Maycock 595
  Formula 2 Points

1
Elliott Harper 600

3
Jamie Oliver 595
  Formula 3 Points

1
Simon Williams 596

2
Sam Hunt 593

3
Kevin Howard 587

We also decided that an extra trophy would be awarded at the end of this year, for the "Most Improved Junior - 2005", as a way of recognising the hard work and perserverance that our younger drivers bring to the Club. The only difficulty with this award, is how on earth do you choose? Well, we've used a combination of pure racing results during the year and a bit of judgement on overall attitude towards racing. It was still a difficult choice, with Simon Williams, Chris Mariani, Luke Byrne, Charlie Ware, Peter Jeeves and Liam Snaith all having done really well this year. In the end, a small panel (well, Dave and Colin!) decided that the award should go to Charlie Ware - so well done!

Congratulations to everyone who took part in this years championships - we hope you enjoyed it.

Don't forget, we will be holding the FREE raffle next week!

BRCA / Club Membership 2006

From the beginning of January, your Club and BRCA membership fees will be due. Because the cost of BRCA membership has increased to £12 for 2006, we will reduce the Club membership to just £3, so that it only costs the same as 2005 to renew your Club & BRCA membership.

If you want to pay next years fees before Christmas, you can do, just see Colin on a race night.

 25th November 2005

Just one more round of the Autumn Championship left to go and it's still anyones win in F1, F2 and F3 - check out the results so far:

At the end of the Championship we will be awarding trophies for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places in F1, F2 and F3, as well as Overall Club Champion, and Most Improved Junior Driver - a new award for this year.

How do you get a draw ticket for these wonderful prizes? Well there's nothing to it - for every round of the Championship you raced in, a ticket with your name on will be put in the draw - as easy as that!

A huge thanks to both Mike and Rob for supporting the Club this way and giving us such HUGE discounts on the above prizes.

 18th November 2005

Because one of the Club's aims is to help provide children (as well as the adults!) with somewhere to race and share their enjoyment of radio controlled cars, we decided that it seemed appropriate if all of last nights takings, and any aditional donations, were given to Children in Need. So a big "Thank You!" to everyone who raced last night (and even those who didn't) because we have been able to donate a grand total of £87.64 to this excellent charity.

Things are hotting up now in the Championship, as more drivers complete their minimum of 6 rounds to get a final position. Check out the results so far:

End of Championship / Christmas Raffle

Well I'm really pleased to announce that we've decided to run a FREE raffle for all the Club Members who have competed in the Autumn Series. So how will it work? Well, firstly, Mike Smith of ModelTech and Rob Oliver of RC Match have both agreed to provide us with discounted prizes, so we will have over £200 worth of prizes up for grabs! Secondly, for every round of the Championship that you have run, one ticket will be added to the draw with your name on it - so in theory the more you have raced, the more likely you are to win!

We will hold the Prize Draw, along with awarding the Trophies on either the 9th or 16th of December.

We may even have something extra special before Christmas, so watch this space..........

 11th November 2005

It was nice to welcome a few new drivers to the Club tonight - hope you all enjoyed it. It was especially interesting to see "Team Sanfords" unusual Schumacher!

Race Results >>

Well, we are heading towards the closing stages of the Autumn Championship now and while I don't want to make any predicitions, you can start to see who is challenging for the top spot in each of the formulas.

In F1, it looks like it going to be between Nathan, John and Dan - who will be able to keep up the pressure for the next three weeks?

In F2, Jamie's up front, but Elliott and Luke are closing fast, and in F3 Simon, Sam, Charlie and Kevin are all in with a chance to win.

There's been some great racing and let's hope it continues - and most of all - let's Have Fun!

 4th November 2005

A bit of a modification to Track 18 tonight made it a bit trickier than intended, but still an interesting and challenging track - we'll make it wider next time!

Over half way through the series now and a few drivers have got 6 rounds under their belts, so can start to drop some of those poorer rounds - I know I want to!

Don't forget - even if you can't get enough rounds in for the championship, you can still come and race on Friday's - it's still the same fun night it is every week and all drivers are welcome.

Autumn Series

The Autumn series will run for 10 weeks and you're final placing will be based on your best 6 results from the possible maximum 10 you can have. The series will start on Friday 30th September and finish Friday 2nd December - in time to get the trophies handed out before Christmas!

The results from the Autumn Series will be "combined" with those from the Spring Super Sprint to sort Formula's for 2006. For the Autumn series we will be using the current Club formula's.

Don't forget, the Club still has a couple of PT's to sell onto Club Members. They are £55 each compared with the normal price of £59 if you were to buy one direct from the suppliers - that's almost all your Club membership fee in discount!

We have also purchased some servo "Y" leads for anyone who doesn't have a 3rd channel or BEC socket to plug the transponder into. We are selling these for £4 each to Club members.

If you are interested in buying one, see Colin on a Club night - you can even pay in installments if that makes it easier.

Driver numbers have been a bit low during the Summer - but with the holidays over, numbers will hopefully now start to get back to normal.

Don't forget, the Autumn Championship Series starts last week in September - so get practicing!

 5th August 2005

Track 15 is a really fast and flowing track and makes you realise just how fast you can get a stock motor to run when it's geared properly! Jamie Oliver put in a fast qualifier to grab a place in the A Final (will he make F1 in the next Series?), while the B and C finals stayed as they were for qualifying - which shows we must have the abilities about right now!

It will be racing as normal for the next couple of weeks, but the website won't be updated now until early September. Keep an eye on the Chat Room for any urgent messages.

Car Security

A fun evening's racing was spoilt by James having his car broken into and the stereo stolen while it was parked in the car park at the Knibb Centre - which took the edge off the 2nd round of finals. This will be an open meeting, so feel free to come along and discuss any items you want to, or let Wayne or Dave know what you would like discussed if you can't make the meeting.

 3rd June 2005

Well tonights racing was a fitting end to what's been a fun series! The most exciting racing was probably in the C Final, with the lead changing so many times, I lost count. Some close racing in the B final as well, but even with a win tonight, Jamie Oliver couldn't quite wrestle the F2 win from David Seamark. In the A Final Nathan tried hard to keep Dan Wooster in check, but a mistake in leg 1, and car problems in leg 2, destroyed any hope of 1st place for Nathan.

Just one more week of the Spring Sprint series to go now, and some of the places are still going to be decided on the last week!

Nathan looks good to take the overall win and F1 - but it all depends on Dan's performance next week. In F2, it's a straight fight now between David Seamark and Jamie Oliver for 1st place, and Kevin Howard can win F3, unless Sam Hunt comes in at the last minute and steals it for himself!

Once the positions have sorted themselves out, there will be trphies for the top 3 placed drivers in each group as well as overall champion.

Did you succumb to the "bad luck" of Friday 13th tonight? Well it certainly felt like it from my point of view, but then again I can manage to break my car any week, so what was so special about this week? Well of course it was no different. When we crash out in a race and either lose a place or worse damage our car and have to leave the track, we'd all like to blame someone else - but in reality we've only our own driving to blame - and after all, it's only a bit of fun - isn't it?

WOW! - Paul Upton's Corally RDX seemed like it was running on 7 cells tonight, as it flew around the track. But Dan Wooster's RC-Lab managed to keep close, finishing each leg of the Finals only 1 lap down.

With 29 drivers it was a busy night, although a few (myself included) ended the night early due to frustrating breakages!

Please Help!

It would help if everyone could get to the hall by 7.15pm at the latest, so that we can get everyone booked into the computer and racing started for 7.30pm. That way we can all get home at a sensible time once the track is packed away at the end of the night.

Oh, and a big "thank you" to all those regulars who stay behind to help pack away, and shame on the rest of you! If everyone who raced took just 5 minutes to help pack away the track it would take no time at all.

Just so I don't miss anyone out - a big thank you to those who help lay out the track at the start of the night - it's just as important we get the track down quickly or there will be no time to race!

Kettering Crew off to Cambridge - Again!

A number of our drivers are going to Cambridge on Sunday to race for our Club in an open race meeting similar to the one we went to last year. To give everyone a bit of practice, we set out a new track tonight which is similar in layout to the one planned for Sunday.

Track 22 >>

It proved to be quite a tricky layout, particularly the chicane at one end!

Spring Super Sprint

Don't forget, that next week sees the start of the new Spring Series, which will run for 9 weeks and will decided on your best 6 runs from the 9 weeks.

This doesn't change the sorting for the heats or finals, but just adds a bit of fun, with drivers being scored within their Formula's as well as overall within the Club.

Easter Holiday

Don't forget, there is NO RACING next Friday (25th March) as it is Good Friday and the venue is closed. We will be back to normal the following week - 1st April - no fooling around though!

Spring Super Sprint

Just to add a bit of interest to racing, we will be running a new championship series, starting 8th April, which will run for 9 weeks (so a bit shorter than our normal 12 week ones) and will decided on your best 6 runs from the 9 weeks.

This doesn't change the sorting for the heats or finals, but just adds a bit of a challenge, with drivers being scored within their Formula's as well as overall within the Club.

Red Nose Day Endurance Event!

Well, if you didn't come along and take part in tonight's endurance event, you missed a fast, fun and exciting race meeting, which hinged as much on good team work and tactics as it did on driver skills! Mind you, red hair came into it as well!

19 drivers turned out, so we created 5 teams, four with 4 drivers and one with 3 drivers, all drivers being placed into teams based on their ability. The teams were:

Team 1
Anthony Spooner
Simon Phillips
David Brown
Brian Hodgson

Team 2
Richard Bland
Paul Coleman
Robert Hull
Tom Walpole

Team 3
Nathan Maycock
Luke Byrne
Graeme Chapman
Robert Hodgson

Team 4
James Trostler
Daniel Mayes
Kevin Howard
Mathew Book
Team 5
Colin Williams
Jamie Oliver
Mark Phillips

At the end of the first 30 minute leg, Team 5 were in the lead with 159 laps, followed closely by Team 3 (153 laps) and Team 1 (151laps). After a 10 minute break, we started leg 2, and finally leg 3, giving each team a total of one and a half hours track time.

In the end, Team 1 won the event with a total of 490 laps, with Team 5 in close second place with 481 laps, Team 3 in a respectable 3rd, Team 4 in 4th place and finally Team 2 bringing up the rear after mechanical problems with two of their cars.

Here are the results:

Pos Name Leg 1 Leg 2 Leg 3
Final Result
1 Team 1 151 161 178
490 laps
2 Team 5 159 158 164
481 laps
3 Team 3 153 163 162
478 laps
4 Team 4 143 154 149
446 laps
5 Team 2 139 159 61
359 laps

The race was run on a special track you can see here:

Well done to all the teams and drivers, it was a great night, with some really good driving, and excellent marshalling.

Red Nose Day 2005!

Big Hair & Beyond

Don't forget our Red Nose Day event will be an endurance race, next Friday, 11th March. We also want to raise as much as possible through sponsorship, so if you haven't already picked one up, why not do so now from here:

Sponsorship form >>

So what is an endurance event?

Well, it's based very loosely on the idea of the Le Mans 24hr race, except we will be changing over drivers and car during the race, and we will only be running for 2 hours max!

When everyone has booked in to race, we will create a maximum of six teams, each with four drivers (although this may depend on how many turn up on the night). These teams will then compete to see which can do the most laps from 3 x 30minute race sessions - with each session having a 10 minute break between to repair the track and get our breath back!

There will be a few rules (apart from the normal motor, tyres, etc.), just to try and make the racing as fair as possible:

  • There will be one transponder per team, which must be passed from driver to driver off the track.
  • Each driver must race at least once, ideally for at least 5 minutes, in each of the three 30minute sessions.
  • At least one team member must be marshalling at any time during the race sessions.
  • Only one driver on the rostrum at any one time.
  • The winning team will be the one with the most laps totalled from all three sessions.

Teams will be selected on the night, based on ability, once everyone has booked in, to try and make the team compositions as fair as possible and give each team a realistic chance of winning.

After that, then team tactics are up to you!

Just remember that while you are on the track, the point is not to race against the other cars directly, but just to rack up as many laps as possible without crashing or breaking your car.

Please come along as early as you can so we can get everyone booked in and the teams sorted as early as possible - also don't forget to bring all your crystals and plenty of batteries.

 25th February 2005

Well I won't say tonight's was the best track we've ever designed, but it certainly created quite a challenge to find a smooth line and avoid everyone else! Although I didn't like it to start with, by the end of the night, I was just about starting to get the hang of the rather quirky Track 17.

What is this invasion of RC-Lab's all about! It seems that Mike Smith's ModelTech is gradually taking over the World - with 8 out of the top ten cars tonight all being RC-Lab, and now our "illustrious" Chairman has gone and bought one as well!

See the results for yourself:

Should also just say "Well Done" to Anthony Spooner for getting a supported drive with RC-Lab this year - good luck in the STCC.

Red Nose Day 2005!

Big Hair & Beyond

RND '05 is coming up fast and KMCC are planning to hold an endurance event as a bit of a fundraiser - and we would like as many of our members as possible to take part.

The format will be similar to the previous event we held last year, but we would like to get as many people sponsored for their drive as possible.

We will be holding this race meeting on Friday 11th March - so why not speak to Richard Bland next week to find out more and sign up for this. Richard will have more detail regarding sponsorship soon, or you can download a RND'05 sponsorship form directly - don't forget Gift Aid gets Tax back as well!.

If you are interested in buying one, see Colin on a Club night.
